Location
Cayo Coco is an island off the Northern shore of Cuba and is in the Atlantic Ocean. Cayo Coco is known for its white sand beaches and pristine turquoise waters. Weather Cayo Coco enjoys a tropical climate which is warm year round. Dry season runs from December through April and wet season from May – November when there is increased rainfall. Evenings during the months of December - March can sometimes be on the cooler side so it is recommended to bring sweaters and light jackets if you will be out in the evening. Average temperatures are between 20 and 35 Celsius during the day. Getting Around Your transfers to and from the airport are included with your all inclusive package. It is recommended that if you wish to do sight-seeing that you purchase an excursion from your resort or tour operator. Currency The official currency of Cuba is the Cuban Convertible Peso which you can only exchange while in Cuba. You can bring Canadian or Euros to exchange for Pesos however US dollars incur extra fees, so avoid them if you can. Major credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard are accepted as long as they are not issued by a US bank. Language Spoken Spanish is the official language in Cuba. In tourist areas English is commonly spoken by resort staff although it is not their first language. Electricity The common voltage used in Cuba is 220 volts; therefore if you are travelling from Canada or the US you will need a convertor to use any of your electrical appliances. Excursions Since Cayo Coco is an island most of the popular excursions have something to do with water! Boat trips, Catamaran rides, scuba diving, and glass bottom boat tours are readily available and fishing trips are also popular. Swimming with dolphins is available as well as horseback riding and jeep safaris. Your resort will offer a variety of water sports. It is recommended that your purchase an excursion through your resort or tour operator and they will have a more extensive list of options as well as prices. Shopping Most shopping is available at resorts. They have resort shops centrally located with local souvenirs as well as vendors who will occasionally come in who offer more unique local items.
